On the surface, this seems like a simple story – three inmates escape from prison and then disappear. But like many mysteries, there's what everyone knows, and then there's the story beneath the story. Who were these men and what life experiences and skills did they possess that made their escape possible? And just as important, those who played a part in their escape—famous mobster Mickey Cohen, James “Whitey” Bulger, Bumpy Johnson, exotic dancer Candy Barr, Fred Brizzi, Robert Anglin, and many others. And once out, how were John Anglin, Clarence Anglin and Frank Morris able to vanish without a trace, yet the official FBI report released in 2002 claims the three were sighted in various locations following the escape? The answers to these and other powerful questions are almost beyond belief, and all of them true.

For the first time ever, the Anglin family reveals the secrets they've kept about the escape for over 60 years in our new book, Alcatraz: The Last Escape (written by Ken Widner and Mike Lynch), where you'll find out what really happened the night of June 11, 1962. Published by Rowman & Littlefield, it is scheduled to be released on May 7. We also have an audio version of the book published by Tantor Media also coming out on May 7.
"Based on my firsthand experience, knowledge and observation, the planning and execution of escaping from the cell block building and making it to the water displayed incredible ingenuity, discipline and preparation. The same level of planning and ingenuity must have been employed in negotiating the waters of the San Francisco Bay." -- Stewart Fillmore, ex-FBI agent and Alcatraz enthusiast

"If it were me, I would round up the posse." -- Michael Streed, retired police sergeant and one of the world's leading forensic facial imaging experts
